HAND TO SOUL SERIES #1

CHRISTELLE SCIFO

Introducing ILIO NEMA’s Hand to Soul series, a celebration of the human touch behind creativity, culture, and connection. In this series, we spotlight women living intentional, connected lives, and explore their relationship to craft, culture, and nature.

Our first muse: Christelle Scifo, a multi-hyphenate creative and the force behind Fleurette. Half-French, half-Australian, Christelle holds a deep reverence for nature, moving effortlessly between art, fashion, and form.

Q: What first drew you to this kind of work? And how did you start

A: I’ve always been surrounded by flowers - my aunts are both artists and avant gardeners - and some of my first memories are gardenias at Christmas time in my aunties gardens.

It really came together when I moved to Paris - my father’s French so I’m half French, half Australian - and while living in Paris as a dancer the gardens of Paris were a big inspiration for me and my work and what I seem to always fall back on.

Q: What is your creative process?

A: I would say my creative process really depends on the event, the clients, the season. I work intuitively I’m very immotive in my work and very much prompted by the location and the occasion.

Q: How does your creative practice intertwine with your personal life?

A: To be honest Fleurette is really an extension of myself - maybe my alter ego. But I feel my work, my personal brand and my craft are really closely intertwined and each balance and inspire each other.

Q: What are your thoughts on sustainability in fashion?

A: Sustainability is a big topic these days. I feel like maybe the term is used too loosely. In fashion I know it’s a hot topic and in flowers even more so - and perhaps even more importantly so. I work with nature, it's my biggest inspiration and why I love what I do.  The fact that I get to work with nature and fashion - the two combined - means I’m very mindful and try to encourage my clients to work with and choose seasonal and locally grown florals and elements, and no floral foam.

I take a lot of pride in working with local growers and sustainable practices and being mindful of the environments I work in.
